Seahouses is a nice seaside village 14 miles north of Alnwick in the heart of the Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. As well as being a working fishing village, it is also the gateway to the Farne islands which are a National Trust bird reserve. There are a number of boat trips available to see the islands that are well known for their wildlife which can include seals and puffins depending on the time of year. The Farne islands are also known for the remarkable true story of Grace Darling, the daughter of a lighthouse man, who along with her father made a heroic rescue of some sailors from a sinking boat when it was too dangerous for the life boat to launch. The current Seahouses life boat is named after her.
